Mittens For Winter - Warm Up Your Hands
By MJ Wadsworth
You can't beat a pair of the best mittens when the cold snap kicks in. A hand firmly encased in a mitten is a warm hand indeed. Like a good pair of ear muffs, they're guaranteed to keep winter at bay.
Whether you're looking to purchase red mittens, ski mittens or even a good old fashioned favorite - sheepskin mittens, so long as you've got the pair to suit you, you're a long way towards keeping yourself as warm as toast through the winter months.
Despite being a guy, I'm a happy chap when I'm wearing a pair and I've no shame in admitting it. Where I'm from, if your hands don't have gloves on, you're guaranteed to spend month after month wishing you did have some.
Don't go cold this winter, treat yourself to any one of the best selling mittens on Amazon.
Wool Mittens
The most popular (and practical) wool mittens are the Fox River Double Ragg Mitt, a true mitten with a quality manufacture.
Available in three sizes:
- small
- medium
- large
They also come in wheat, wheat or wheat. Lots of choice for the fashion conscious. They're a top seller not least due to their ability to really keep your hands warm - and will be especially good for those living in areas whereby the spring almost forgets to turn up.
They're a wool/nylon mix, 85%/15% respectively. Fully lined, made in the US and guarenteed to keep the coldest hands warm through the worst of the winter weather. The ones to buy if you want some serious hand heat this winter.
Convertible Mittens
These lovely convertible mittens are the Ragg Wool Pop Top Glove. They're actually convertible mittens and you can flip between the mitten or fingerless glove aspect.
That way you can either have your fingertips free but freezing, or tucked away yet toasting. With an almost perfect five star rating, the Ragg Top's are 100% wool, complete with Thinsulate insulation.
If that's not enought, they also include a rather nifty handwarmer, that slots into the a pocket in the mitten part. Good to know that your extremities are not only covered, they're hopefully going to stay as hot as Hades.
An understandable best seller at just under $20. A keeper - more so for those that really do like to prevent their fingers from dropping off during the winter months.
Womens Mittens
If it's womens mittens you're after, the PL 400 Mitts - Women's by Outdoor Research are a heavy weight contender.
Heavy weight in all aspects. These black beauties will work well in freezing conditions and are a nice touch is the fact that they - wash. Some mittens don't do too good after a cycle around the laundry room but the PL 400's will cope just fine.
They've got an inner 100 weight sock-type liner, with a 300 weight fleece outer, giving a grand total of a 400 weight hand warmer. Like I said - they're heavyweight.
Quality stitching, a silicon palm grip and elasticized wrists give an overall quality feel. Not the cheapest but certainly one of the best mittens available. Big plus? They're black. They go with everything ladies.
Mens Mittens
Want mens mittens? Then you'll want the Winter Cowhide Leather ones. These are the daddies. The kind a man wears. The kind I like to wear.
They're leather, they're black and they're lined several times over. Just in case. The outer is genuine 100% cowhide and the inner consists of a double polyester/acrylic lining.
Nothing remotely girl about them. Unless you buy them in Tan which, you know ... doesn't look quite so good on a guy.
Available in four sizes:
- X large
- large
- medium
- small
Top gloves, great for sub zero temperatures and built to last. If you buy these, at least you know you're buying quality, warmth and durability. In a nutshell - that's all any man wants.
The New Womens Sheepskin Leather Fur Tan are the best selling sheepskin mittens. These are a luxury mitten. Made from a sheep of course.
But is it's a good enough source of warmth for sheep, then it's good enough for us. They're not the easiest to care for, in as much as the minute you stick them in the laundry, they're going to come out looking like a wet dog.
Still, no matter. You know that anyway. What are you getting for your $30 odd bucks? You're getting a well made pair of gloves, fully lined, genuine sheepskin, that will keep your hands as warm as toast.
A big favorite with many - so long as you realise you're not going to get to wash them. A definite top buy if you're after a pair of well made sheepskin gloves.
